Bio

Alison Fleming is a UK songwriter and recording artist, based in Colorado USA.

Born in Lincolnshire UK, Alison grew up in an RAF family (Royal Air Force), moving frequently between camps including a stint in Germany, before eventually settling in Yorkshire UK. Her parents, originally from Northeast England, were musically inclined. Growing up with a piano always in the home, from an early age Alison was drawn to composing music and writing poetry. She began playing guitar at 17 and started songwriting in her early 20s while working full-time in PR and publishing.

Her early songs composed on acoustic guitar were folk-inspired, focusing on popular themes such as love, the human condition and songs about the world. She later incorporated keyboards and electric guitar -  recording on basic equipment including a Tascam Porta One 8-track.

In the 1980s Alison began mailing demo cassettes to music-industry professionals in London and received enthusiastic feedback, with advice to refine her production.

In 1986, through an NME magazine ad, she connected with producer Tony Lowe. This led to a songwriting partnership that attracted attention particularly from A&R at Chrysalis Records and Hit and Run Publishing.

In 1995, Alison relocated to the United States, initially settling in Missouri. The timing was fortuitous, as the new emerging world wide web allowed Fleming and Lowe to continue to co-write over the internet.  The pair's ability to co-write across continents while also maintaining individual artistic pursuits highlights the strength and adaptability of this creative partnership.

Two Lowe/Fleming co-written albums All of the Above and Second Nature landed on the first ballot lists of the GRAMMY® Awards 2007 and 2008 - an unprecedented achievement for independent artists.

Alison signed with the Sunn Creative label for third Lowe/Fleming co-write Human Sleeping - Dreams 1 to 8 (2014), an album that further showcased the team's creative synergy. Enthusiastically received, it earned rave reviews for its mysterious, dreamlike atmosphere, strong melodies, provocative intent, and pervasive message of hope.

Alison has contributed variously over the years also to Tony Lowe's critically acclaimed  ESP Project (see Lowe & Fleming) and has co-written and made guest appearances on other albums on associated record label Sunn Creative (MD Cheryl Stringall) for which Tony Lowe is Creative Director.

On September 29th 2022 ESP Project's ground breaking concept-album innerlife was released. Written by Tony Lowe and Alison Fleming the album is an attuned version of the duo's GRAMMY listed (2007) All of the Above.

Alison’s solo music offers an eclectic palette: artful pop-rock, cinematic depth, quirky ballads, soulful introspection, with an interesting extension into the electronic. Her lyrics are intuitive, heartfelt and often ambiguous, drawing from personal experiences and imagination.

Seeking to expand her independent catalogue, Alison uploaded some of her original songs to ReverbNation, which caught the attention of UK producer Paul Baggott who offered to produce a track. This opened the door to further collaboration and as of 2025 the creative interchange between the pair has led to the release of five warmly welcomed solo albums.

Freeway (2017) and Freeway - The Remixes (2017) gained traction in many ways, including radio play and great reviews.

  • Single 1000 Miles (Freeway) was opted into the sound library for US political thriller, Operating Naked, filmed in Toronto and Marbella, Spain. The track has been praised for its experimental style, ambience and personal edge.
  • Track Heart Dance (Freeway - The Remixes) was accepted by the discovery platform Whotune for inclusion in the Facebook iOS game Rockstar Rising.

Freeway - Songwriter and the Remixes (2018) - was released on Bandcamp as a double digital-only album comprising the songs from both the Freeway albums.

Play On Words (2023) was warmly received, described as an eclectic album, with popular music influences, proffering a thoughtful take on the human experience.

Play On Words - The Remixes (2024) created by Paul Baggott is dance oriented and sounds very different to the album from which it was born, albeit the song titles remain the same.
